Cabane de Rabiet
Cabane de Rabiet is an unmanaged backcountry hut in the Néouvielle massif, used by hikers and mostly by anglers, located near Lac de Rabiet at about 2,199 m. It sleeps 8 people on two levels of wooden sleeping platforms, with a small table and iron benches that can be moved out to create more working space.
Inside, there’s an open fireplace and a stove/poêle, plus a pot (marmite). The hut has ventilation openings closed by iron shutters, and it’s heated through the hut mass after sunny days in summer. Use includes a first-come, first-served approach and the hut is free to use; there is no wood stored nearby, so plan to bring fuel if you intend to burn the fireplace/stove.
Access is short off the main track: the hut sits about 15 minutes below the trail in the valley toward the lac, but there is no defined descent track. Two commonly used drop-ins are from Col de Rabiet (leaving the main path at the intersection around 2,269 m) or from Col de Pierrefitte (walking down about 300 m toward the lac before continuing along it). Nearby objectives include Lac de Rabiet.
