Cabane de Subera
Cabane de Subera is a free, unstaffed backcountry shelter on the GR10/“Chemin de la Liberté” route line in the Ariège Pyrenees near Seix, used for multi-day hikes. It sits at about 1499 m and is part of a pastorale-style cabin complex with two sections: one area is reserved for the shepherd, while the part available to hikers is the one you should aim for.
Inside, the rebuilt cabane is set up to sleep around 10 people (capacity 10). Furnishings include a large fireplace, a large table, benches, six bunk beds (with some bunks not suitable due to space), and a mezzanine with a mattress plus an extra floor mattress option; mattresses are available for sleeping. A water supply is included in the refuge, and wood is available, but you should still plan to be self-sufficient for firewood/logistics rather than relying on perfect stocking at all times.
Use is first-come, first-served: there’s no warden on site and no advance reservation system for the cabane. Bring your own sleeping system backup (tent/bivy is a sensible plan if the cabane is full), and expect an unstaffed experience—arrive ready to manage without hosts.
