Cabane des Bergers

Cabane des Bergers is a high, unstaffed mountain shelter (2,431–2,434 m range) in the French Alps above Bessans.

It’s primarily a basic emergency stop or resting point, so plan to arrive self-sufficient: overnight stays require bringing your own sleeping gear, and there’s limited space. Water is available within about 100 m, and the area is known for avalanche exposure.

Access from the Vincendières area typically follows an approach over the Avérole torrent to Plan du Pré, then climbs to the Oratoire de Saint Antoine de l’Envers and continues by a steep, rocky mountain path to the cabane. A second approach can go via the Refuge d’Avérole, then Plan de Revallon, Pas des Eublats and Pas de la Mule; after the season, the Pas de la Mule footbridge is removed, making that option impractical outside the main period.
