Camí de Núria a Ulldeter (GR11)

Camí de Núria a Ulldeter (GR11) is the classic GR11 link in Catalonia between the Sanctuary of Núria and the Ulldeter cirque. It’s mapped as a long-distance hiking route with a total length in the ~13–15 km range, depending on the exact starting point and any small loop variations.

Expect a sustained mountain day on steep, rocky ground with alpine ridge crossings. The route climbs about 928 m and typically takes around 5 to 7.5 hours for fit hikers, so pace accordingly.

A practical way to plan it is as a point-to-point with end infrastructure at Ulldeter: the Sanctuary area provides cafés and restaurants, and Ulldeter has the Refugi d’Ulldeter for mountain lodging and food.

Water isn’t something to count on only at trailheads. Natural springs and runoff exist, but carrying enough water and using a filter/purification method is strongly recommended for this kind of mountain segment.

Terrain guidance: multiple high passes can bring fast weather shifts; snow and high winds can occur even outside midwinter seasons. That combination is why the same route is commonly treated as extremely demanding despite being signed for GR11 navigation.

Where this route sits in the GR11 system, it’s also tied to the Pyrenean Haute Randonnée experience—an itinerary that tends to be used for multi-day journeys rather than quick excursions, with mountain navigation skills and time management mattering on the ground.
