Camino de la Central del Restaño

Camino de la Central del Restaño (also called Senda de la Jocica) is the access route used to reach the PR-PNPE 7 Jocica - Carombo trail in Amieva, Asturias, inside Picos de Europa National Park. Expect it to function as a one-way paved approach that turns into a dirt forest trail.

Mapped distance on the approach is about 5.6 km, but the connected out-and-back outing referenced with this access commonly totals roughly 11.1–17 km depending on where you start and whether you complete the full loop-style options on the PR-PNPE 7.

Time-wise, the linked hike effort is typically about 3.5–5 hours, with the route labeled moderate and a sustained climb characteristic once the forest trail begins.

Terrain transitions from pavement to a steady, steep dirt trail through forest. The route is described as good for trail visibility, and the surface is dirt; footwear matters because parts of the forest section can be slick.

The common flow is: start outside Amieva and follow the Camino de la Central del Restaño paved track toward the area of Collado de Angón, then continue downhill on paved road for about 2.5 km to Restaño Dam before entering the dense forest for the ascent to Presa de la Jocica.

After you cross a bridge and a gate, you walk through dense forest alongside the river corridor. The climb continues steadily through green pasture areas until you reach Presa de la Jocica (Jocica Dam), which is used as the turnaround/rest stop on the access-based out-and-back.

The route is repeatedly framed as moderate in effort (often described as moderate to challenging for experienced hikers), with an estimated elevation gain of about 580 m for the referenced linked hike.
