Cape Hauy Track

Cape Hauy Track is a Grade 3 day hike in Tasman National Park on the Tasman Peninsula, covering about 9.4 km return and typically taking 3–5 hours.

The route starts at Fortescue Bay (near the boat ramp) and runs out-and-back to Cape Hauy, including repeated climbs and descents that hinge on a long run of mostly stone steps.

Early on, the track undulates through woodlands and coastal heath before starting the steep descent to (and ascent out of) the Cape Hauy headland terrain.

Once you’re near the cape, the path is closely associated with dramatic dolerite cliff country and ocean views; the standout rock features at the end are The Totem Pole and The Candlestick sea stacks.

The track is part of the Three Capes Track experience, and is often described as suitable for fit walkers who can manage lots of stairs and a few steep sections.

Fortescue Bay is also where you return to after the out-and-back hike; camping is available at Fortescue Bay if you want to turn the day walk into a longer stay.

National Park entry fees apply for access to Tasman National Park and the Cape Hauy Track.
