Cavalls del Vent
Cavalls del Vent is an 84.2 km circular, hut-to-hut hike in Spain’s Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park. The route is built around long stage days and steep altitude swings rather than technical climbing.
The big picture is eight staffed mountain refuges, typically planned as 4 or 5 stages. You can start from any of the refuges, but Bagà is a common access base because it’s reached by bus from Barcelona.
Overall elevation gain is about 5,600 m, with a high point at Refugi Niu de l’Àliga (reported at 2,537 m). Expect frequent up-and-down walking even when individual legs are “only” moderate in length.
Hiking season is usually limited to when the refuges are open and snow is not an issue; the most reliable window runs June through September. Outside that period, higher sections can become difficult or inaccessible.
Route-wayfinding follows orange markings, but you still need to navigate with the dedicated route map for the Cavalls del Vent line. The countryside varies from river-valley lowlands up into alpine terrain as you pass between refuges.
Logistically, plan on reserving beds in advance for peak summer demand. Meals are generally half-board in the refuges, so you can travel lighter than a fully self-supported trek.
