Chalet de Roche Coutant
Chalet de Roche Coutant is a non-guarded mountain refuge used by hikers and mountaineers in the Belledonne area. It’s a small stone cabin with a wood stove, a basic kitchen setup, and sleeping space on mattresses (4 places upstairs).
Inside you’ll find a wood-burning stove, a table with benches, and kitchen utensils (cooking pots/pans and eating items), plus photovoltaic lighting for illumination at night. A water source is available outside in summer, but it can be dry or frozen later in the year.
Use is typically first-come, first-served and the cabin is sometimes occupied by a shepherd during the summer grazing season (estive). The cabin and pastures can also be fully shut during parts of the year, so plan around seasonal occupancy and winter conditions when the area is snowy.
