Charlie Carters Hut

Charlie Carters Hut is a historic wilderness shelter in the Pilot Wilderness area of Kosciuszko National Park, New South Wales. It sits on the Tin Mine Fire Trail and is used as a remote emergency refuge for bushwalkers and cross-country skiers, with no commercial accommodation set-up.

The hut was built by the Mt Pilot Tin Mining Syndicate in 1935–1936 and is the last remaining accommodation hut from that mining-hut group. Use is first-come, first-served: there is no booking system and no fees for staying. It’s extremely basic—primitive sleeping on a basic platform with a dirt/dri-creted floor, a rustic rock hearth/fireplace, and an outdoor non-flush toilet (pit privy). There’s no electricity or running water; bring your own drinking water treatment and plan on treating nearby creek water.
