Charlie Ramsay Round
Charlie Ramsay Round is a long-distance mountain challenge based out of Glen Nevis Youth Hostel near Fort William, Scotland, run as a circuit on foot with a 24-summit itinerary.
The route covers about 95 km (roughly 58 miles) and is credited with around 8,700 m (28,500 ft) of total ascent, including Ben Nevis plus 22 other Munros.
It’s designed around a fixed “take all tops in order” task: whether you go clockwise or anticlockwise, you still have to complete all summits in sequence.
The classic line is commonly done anticlockwise, starting on the Mamores and finishing on Ben Nevis as the climax of the round.
For planning, the route is unmarked in the typical mountain sense, with navigation required between summits rather than following a signed path all the way.
Historically, Charlie Ramsay devised the route as an extension to Tranter’s Round and first completed it on 8–9 July 1978; Sgorr an Iubhair was declassified as a Munro in 1997.
The round’s emphasis is ultra-level endurance and route-finding over long, remote days: even for hikers, it’s paced and attempted as a serious sub-24-hour style challenge rather than a casual out-and-back.
