This metal ladder forms part of the Peak 1 approach on the Stawamus Chief in Squamish, British Columbia. It is used to climb the final rock-and-forest section toward the summit, and is part of a route also used by hikers who are not climbing the Chief’s rock faces.
The Peak 1 ascent combines steep stairs and rough rock with chains and a second ladder near the summit. Peak 1 is reached after about 2.11 km from the trailhead and 550 m of ascent; the route is exposed near the summit and requires scrambling ability, especially around the assisted sections.
