Cloud Cap Inn is a historic backcountry lodge on the north side of Mt. Hood that today operates as a search-and-rescue base rather than a standard bookable overnight inn. It sits at about 6,000 ft and is run in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and maintained by the Hood River Crag Rats.

For visitors, the common public option is free guided tours hosted during summer Sundays. Tour reservations and access details are handled through the Hood River Ranger District Information Desk; tours run twice daily (11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.) and are limited to 12 people per group, with each tour lasting roughly 45 minutes to one hour.

If you’re planning an off-schedule visit, the inn’s public use is tour-oriented and differs from overnight lodging—there isn’t a typical “book a room” process for regular stays. The Crag Rats also note that occasional private use has been possible only under a dedicated donation arrangement to support their search-and-rescue operations.
