Coal Creek Public Use Cabin

Coal Creek Public Use Cabin is a small public backcountry cabin in Yukon Charley National Preserve, located on a hillside above the historic Coal Creek mining camp. It is operated as part of the preserve’s public use cabin system and is intended for short-term stays in the remote river country.

The cabin sleeps 2 comfortably (up to 4). Use is free and not reserved; it is first-come, first-served. There is a wood stove/“wood stove, under the light of an oil lamp” setup for warmth and drying gear, and the cabin has a fireplace; bring your own food and plan to handle bear-safe food storage and cleaning practices. The preserve sets a limit on combined public use cabin stays: no more than 10 days in any 30-day period without a permit from the superintendent.

Access is typically by hiking a four-mile trail from Slaven’s Roadhouse or by flying into the Coal Creek airstrip. The public use cabin is year-round. Capacity and location details, including the nearby trail/airstrip approach, are covered in the preserve’s public use cabin information.
