Cocora Valley Loop (Valle de Cocora Loop) is a full-day circuit in Los Nevados National Natural Park area near Salento, Quindío, Colombia. The mapped loop is 11.47 km and sits at roughly 1,800–2,400 m, so expect cool, changeable mountain weather even on clear mornings.

The route is built around the iconic wax palm landscape of Cocora Valley (Ceroxylon quindiuense) and the surrounding cloud-forest habitat within the national park. It’s also a wildlife-focused valley where the park protects the wax palm’s main remaining populations.

Plan on roughly 5–7.5 hours of hiking for the full loop. Progress is slowed by frequent muddy sections; after rain, some trails can be so wet that footwear and legs take a beating.

You can run the loop in either direction. Clockwise starts in the open wax-palm area first and then pushes into the cloud forest; counter-clockwise tends to begin with the river/bridge side and brings you back down toward the wax palms later.

A common mid-route break/option is the Acaime area: there’s a nearby hummingbird reserve accessible via a short detour off the main loop. You’ll also pass through multiple bridges along the valley corridor as the track follows the river system.

Getting to trailhead access in the valley is typically by jeep from Salento, then a walk from the drop-off into the loop; the area has restaurants/campsites at Cocora, but you should carry what you need for the hike since options within the loop are limited.

Terrain and logistics favor sturdy footwear and rain protection. Many hikers use waterproof layers (or ponchos) and bring a packed lunch and water, because the day can involve a lot of wet ground and rapid weather shifts.
