Route Details

Conrad Kain Hut is an Alpine Club of Canada backcountry hut in Bugaboo Provincial Park (B.C.), sitting at about 2230 m. It’s set up for climbing parties and is located below the Snowpatch Spire in the heart of the Bugaboos, with use aimed at scrambling, mountaineering, and alpine rock climbing.

The hut runs open summer only, with a stated capacity of 35. Booking is required, and there is a cash payment option; use includes amenities like an electric heater and electric lighting, with water from a creek and an outhouse. The typical access is a steep summer hike from the parking area near the Bugaboos Lodge, continuing about 4.6 km and about 700 m of elevation gain to reach the hut (roughly 3–4 hours).

Access and approach details for the 2025 season include a warning that the route to the Bugaboo (Conrad Kain) Hut was significantly damaged in 2025, with creek crossings expected—including fording the creek below the hut and on the trail between the hut and Applebee Campground. A bridge is planned after snowmelt and creek stabilization; if travel can’t be managed safely, operations may be adjusted or suspended, with reservations cancelled and refunded. Hazards called out include rockfall, unstable boulders, avalanche debris, and uneven steep slippery terrain, with travel described as at your own risk—so bring the appropriate skills and equipment.
