Coppermine Trail

Coppermine Trail is a 4.4 km loop in Fundy National Park built around the site of an old copper mine (operated from 1891–1910). The route follows the road that led to the mine, then works its way back to Point Wolfe along the Bay of Fundy coast.

The hike alternates between shaded stretches in the Acadian forest and open coastal travel after you leave the mine area. Expect small streams cascading toward the Bay of Fundy along the way.

There’s a “steep section(s)” component on this loop. The terrain connects forest to cliff-and-beach country, so be ready for uneven ground where footing can be challenging in wet conditions.

The loop is timed around tides and coastal conditions: viewpoints and rest areas along the way are used to read the rise and fall of the world’s highest tides. The coastal part also lines up with passing offshore activity such as Alma’s lobster fleet.

Typical outing time is 1.5 to 2 hours, with a difficulty level rated Moderate. It’s a good fit for fast day-hikers, but the cliffs and coastal walking keep it from being a casual stroll.

For planning, the key practical constraint is staying on marked trails in Fundy’s rugged cliffs and river valleys. Bring footwear with traction and support, plus water and a snack, and plan to be back on time.
