Derrick Hut

Derrick Hut is a Parks Victoria-managed timber day-use shelter in the Victorian High Country near Mount Hotham, used by cross-country skiers and bushwalkers as a refuge in changeable alpine weather. It was built in 1967 by the Wangaratta Ski Club as a memorial connected to Charles Henry Derrick.

The hut has a fireplace and a unique internal water tank, but sleeping inside the structure for recreation isn’t permitted—use it for daytime and emergency shelter. If you’re passing through on longer routes, Derrick Hut sits on the Australian Alps Walking Track between Mount Hotham and Falls Creek, and it also appears as a waypoint near the end of the Falls to Hotham Alpine Crossing.
