Dhodap trail
Dhodap trail is a long-distance hiking route to Dhodap Fort in the Western Ghats near Deola, Maharashtra, using a common out-and-back line to reach the summit area at Dhodap Fort.
Expect a tough climb with large elevation gain and a full-day effort; typical reports place the hike around 7 to 11 hours, with total distance varying by turnaround point and route choice (roughly 12–18 miles).
The route’s character is rugged: steep rock-cut steps, natural cave sections, and sections that transition into loose rocky footing as you near the fort/summit approach.
Terrain shifts between wooded forest stretches and more exposed, rock-focused travel on the upper sections, including steep bouldering-style moves near the summit area.
Common access is via the Ambapur or Ikhara side, which is how many people plan the start before committing to the out-and-back fort ascent.
Because sections are off the beaten path with sparse foot traffic, offline navigation works best; plan to carry enough water and snacks since facilities are scarce along the route.
If you’re planning around weather, the dry season (roughly May to September) is typically the best window for firmer ground and longer hiking light; the wetter months tend to make the rocky approach more slippery and reduce visibility.
