Dillon Hut
Dillon Hut is a DOC backcountry tramping hut on the Taipo River Track in the Kelly Range–Styx River area (West Coast). It’s a standard 10-bunk hut designed for overnighters on this route network, with a wood-burning log burner for heat, water supplied from a rainwater tank, and pit toilets.
The hut is first-come, first-served (no advance booking required). It sleeps 10 on bunk beds with mattresses, and there’s no electricity or gas cooker. Pay by buying a Standard Hut Ticket for each night and placing it in the honesty box at the hut (or use an annual Backcountry Hut Pass). Adult pricing and youth pricing are set per night, and you’ll want to follow the hut-care rules: keep the hut clean, pack out rubbish, and conserve firewood.
Access is from the start of a signposted 4WD track and walking path off State Highway 73. The walk is typically about 2–3 hours from the roadside, but you’ll have to cross Seven Mile Creek, which can become impassable after heavy rain. The hut is positioned near Dillon Homestead, with the modern Dillon Hut only a couple of minutes away.
