Dogie Trail
Dogie Trail (Trail #116, ref 116) is a long-distance out-and-back hike into the Sycamore Canyon Wilderness near Sedona, Arizona, where the route ties into the Taylor Cabin Trail after about 5.5 miles.
From the Sycamore Canyon Wilderness boundary at a saddle a few hundred yards from parking, the trail drops and climbs repeatedly: it descends into washes and then climbs back out on the other side, creating rolling ups and downs through hilly canyon terrain.
Expect a rugged tread and moderate-to-strenuous hiking profile with limited shade and unreliable water in the canyon.
At the turnaround area, Sycamore Creek is normally dry; many hikers use that creek crossing as the point to head back, while others push on farther toward Sycamore Basin.
Distance is about 10.3–10.8 miles round-trip, with roughly 1,700–2,200 ft of elevation gain and an estimated 4–5 hours for the hike.
The route is designated for hiking and horseback use, and dogs are allowed on-leash. Forest Service guidance also notes no motorized vehicles on the trail within the wilderness.
Trailhead access runs via Forest Road 525 toward Sycamore Pass Road (FR 525C). The trailhead is reached by driving up the forest roads to the saddle area where the official route begins; high-clearance vehicles are typically required, especially on FR 525C.
