Draper Cabin

Draper Cabin is a primitive log cabin in Morgan-Monroe State Forest, used for backcountry-style stays and rented as a wilderness hut. It’s a wooden-floored cabin set up for an old-school experience: no electricity, no running water, and no beds or other furnished sleeping gear; a fireplace is provided inside and there’s a vault toilet outside.

The cabin is set up for up to 14 guests and use is by reservation (fee required). Reserve for the first weekend in April through the weekend before Thanksgiving; in winter, it may be available on a day-by-day basis depending on conditions. The nightly rate is $35 plus tax and reservation fees, and stays have limits including a 2-night minimum (with a 3-night minimum on holiday weekends) and a 14-night maximum.

Plan to bring what you need: sleeping pads/cots, bedding, cooking gear, and water. There’s no drinking water provided, so bring water or a way to treat it. With fireplace use, bring firewood as required by the cabin’s rules, and pack out your trash under forest leave-no-trace expectations for backcountry areas.
