Hiking route

Embudito Trail (Trail 192) is a long-distance hike route in the Cibola National Forest, with an official one-way length of 6 miles. It runs from Embudito Trailhead to South Crest Trail 130, and it links with Three Gun Trail (aka Tres Pistoles) along the way; at that junction you go left to stay on Embudito.

The route is managed for hiking use only. It’s designated for mountain hiking (sac_scale: mountain_hiking), with trail visibility marked as excellent and the tread typically categorized as ground surface.

Expect a sustained climb overall: the route gains from foothill elevations up into higher country at the end of Embudito on the South Crest Trail. The elevation profile is described as roughly 6,240 to 9,300 feet, with a strenuous character from steep ascents and sustained grade.

A key mid-route decision point is where Embudito intersects Three Gun Trail (Tres Pistoles) at about the 4.1-mile mark; staying on Embudito requires turning left at that intersection before continuing to finish on Crest Trail 130.

Access is from Embudito Trailhead via Trailhead Road. Directions from Tramway Blvd. are to take Montgomery Blvd. east toward the mountain to Glenwood Hills Dr., turn left there, follow until you see the sign for Embudito Trail, then turn right onto Trailhead Road to the parking area where the trailhead is on the right side as you enter.

Logistics are simple but you should plan for limited amenities: potable water isn’t available at the trailhead, and cell phone coverage isn’t guaranteed in the canyon. Restrooms are not listed for this site.
