Emmaline Lake Trail
Emmaline Lake Trail (#945) is an 11.4-mile out-and-back hike in the Comanche Peak Wilderness of Roosevelt National Forest. Expect strenuous effort with a moderate-to-steep climb and an elevation gain of about 2,050 feet, with the route topping out near 10,988 feet.
The trail begins on the Emmaline Lake/Mummy Pass Trailhead. The first ~2 miles follow a road corridor that skirts the northwest side of the Colorado State University Mountain Campus, then the route heads to a junction with the Mummy Pass Trail (#937) about 2.5 miles from the trailhead.
Around 3 miles in, the hike reaches Cirque Meadow, which is a common turnaround area for shorter outings. Continuing onward, the route enters wilderness/travel-zone terrain and ascends toward the closure zone area around Emmaline Lake and Cirque Lake.
Trail restrictions are wilderness-focused: dogs must be on a hand-held leash; no motorized or mechanized equipment is allowed; camps/campfires/stock (where allowed) must be at least 200 feet from water and trails; group size is limited to 12 people or stock animals combined; and campfires are not allowed—stoves only. Stock use is prohibited.
