Flamber Head Path
Flamber Head Path is the East Coast Trail segment that runs from La Manche Village to Brigus South in Newfoundland and Labrador. The route is 11.5 km long, with a 1.4 km access path at La Manche Village, and is typically done as a day hike.
Expect a rigorous, up-and-down hike through wooded terrain with many small-stream crossings and frequent transitions onto coastal headlands and cliffy areas. The route includes the resettled former village of La Manche plus the 50 m suspension bridge at La Manche Provincial Park.
A long stretch of the path works over rugged coastline with major headlands, including Cape Neddick and Flamber Head. This is a good place to target seasonal seabirds and whale activity, with eagles also possible in season.
On the La Manche side, the trail starts from the provincial park area around the village. The East Coast Trail stays open year-round, but winter months don’t include path-clearing/condition updates; map use and trail-rated footwear are recommended.
On the Brigus South end, facilities are limited. There’s wilderness camping at Roaring Cove Campsite, 8.5 km from the La Manche Village trailhead, and serviced camping at La Manche Provincial Park (reservation required).
Logistics: parking is available in the La Manche Provincial Park day-use area for a small fee, and access to Brigus South is via Route 10 with a turn-off into the community; park near the Flamber Head trailhead or at the beach pullout by the harbour.
