Glacier Circle Cabin
Route Details
Glacier Circle Cabin is an Alpine Club of Canada backcountry hut in Glacier National Park. It has a wood stove, limited cookware/cutlery, a Coleman stove and lantern, an outhouse, and a water source from Fox Creek about 150 m from the cabin; the cabin was rebuilt in 2006 on a new foundation, with new roof, walls, front porch, and an outhouse. Capacity is 8, and there are no mattresses provided; white gas is not provided.
Access is by ski tour or by a longer hike approach. The classic approach goes over the Illecillewaet Glacier from the campground and requires mountaineering equipment and glacier travel skills; an alternative is a 2–3 day hike up the Beaver Valley into Glacier Circle. For Glacier Circle Cabin when accessed from the Illecillewaet Valley or Illecillewaet Campground trailheads, an overnight parking permit is required (free of charge), and a winter permit is required for all winter backcountry access in Glacier National Park.
Rates are $40 standard for members and $50 standard for non-members; pricing is subject to change. The hut is open all year, with winter use that often involves avalanche terrain and glacier travel; the hut’s programming context emphasizes carrying proper avalanche and glacier travel safety equipment and knowledge.
