GR 20 Out and Back
GR 20 Out and Back is a Corsica point-to-point hiking route built from the GR 20 long-distance footpath’s north–south spine, run as an out-and-back from the same trail throughline. The mapped total distance for this out-and-back build is 332.24 km.
Expect a high-alpine style of travel with ~12,000 m of total elevation gain for the full GR 20, and plan your effort for an “extreme” undertaking rather than an ordinary multi-day hike.
The route is waymarked throughout with red-and-white trail markings, and it’s designed as a continuous crossing trail; your navigation will mostly be about staying on the correct line through rough alpine terrain.
Lodging is typically along the route in mountain huts (“refuges”/gîtes). The GR 20 is an advanced trail, and the hut network is a core part of how most itineraries are paced.
Wild camping is not permitted along the GR 20; tenting is handled by designated camping areas near refuges. That constraint is central to planning an out-and-back that still matches the hut/resupply rhythm.
Facilities and supplies vary refuge to refuge, and connectivity is limited on much of the trail. Off-season travel is generally a different game because mountain refuges are not staffed the same way.
