Green Point Hut

Green Point Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in the Gamack Conservation Area, in the Jollie River catchment. It’s a small stop with 6 bunk beds, typically used by hunters; it was originally part of Braemar Station and served as a mustering hut before being placed in Gamack Conservation Area.

Bookings aren’t required—use is first come, first served. The hut has toilets (pit latrine) and no fireplace, and it provides mattresses. Access is not on a DOC track: the usual start is a signposted track into the Jollie River catchment off Braemar Mount Cook Station Road (eastern side of Lake Pukaki). The first few kilometres pass through private land, so stay on the formed track; from there it’s about 3 km to Jollie Hut, then roughly 8 km further up the valley to Green Point Hut. Navigation is required (map, compass, GPS), and if you’re crossing unbridged rivers or side streams, be prepared to delay or turn back if conditions are unsafe.
