Grey Mare Hut
Grey Mare Hut is a backcountry shelter in the Jagungal Wilderness of Kosciuszko National Park. It’s set on the Grey Mare Fire Trail at the top of the Munyang Corridor, and it was originally built for mining (1934), with the current hut using re-used materials from the original structure (1949).
Use is first-come, first-served with no bookings and no fees, and it’s intended as survival/emergency accommodation—carry a tent and expect to share the hut if others arrive. Capacity is about 6–8 people.
The hut is basic: corrugated iron walls, a timber floor, and a granite/cement fireplace/stove. There’s an adjacent pit toilet, and there’s no running water—bring your own toilet paper and plan to treat or boil water from nearby sources.
