Grey Meadow Trail
Grey Meadow Trail is a strenuous long loop hike in Sequoia National Forest and the Golden Trout Wilderness in California, typically done as a ~13.7-mile circuit.
The most popular variation links Lewis Camp Trailhead to the Kern River area, includes a river crossing, then climbs back toward Lion Meadow and the high meadows around Grey Meadow.
Route travel concentrates through deep pine forest and high-altitude meadow terrain, with Grey Meadow listed as one of the key meadow stops on the loop.
Along the way, the route crosses Clicks Creek twice and includes a fording element on the Little Kern River, which is considered dangerous during high water.
Because the trail runs deep in a remote wilderness, expect rough conditions from time to time—washouts, downed trees, and sections that may intermittently disappear.
This is a wilderness trip: overnight stays require a Golden Trout Wilderness Permit, and vehicles (including bicycles) are prohibited in the wilderness area.
Wildlife activity is a known factor in the area; use bear-resistant food storage (bear canisters) to reduce the risk of human-bear conflicts.
