Habert de Bovinant

Habert de Bovinant is an unmanaged mountain shelter in the Chartreuse area: a small stone cabin used for stopping or sleeping in the backcountry when you need protection. Use is free and it’s open first-come, first-served with no reservations taken. Inside, expect a very rustic setup—no mattresses, no organized sleeping platforms, and no stove—so you’ll need to bring your own sleeping bag and sleeping system, plus your own food and any water-carrying plan.

The shelter is accessed on foot from La Correrie via the road in front of the monastery of the Grande Chartreuse, heading toward the petit Som, ND de Casalibus, and col de Léchaud, with about a 2-hour walk from there. The building is not designed for wood fires inside; plan for an outdoor cook strategy if you carry one, and pack out all trash. Water is available nearby from multiple sources (including a nearby spring close to the shelter), but it can vary in reliability—carry enough to bridge gaps and filter/treat as needed.
