Harvard Cabin
Winter-only public hut run by the Harvard Mountaineering Club under a White Mountain National Forest special-use permit. Open early December through end of March; closed and locked the rest of the year (tent sites closed too). Basecamp for Huntington Ravine ice, nearby ski tours, and winter ascents.
Approach from AMC Pinkham Notch Visitor Center: sign the cabin log there, then ascend Tuckerman Ravine Trail and cut onto the Huntington Ravine Fire Road at the cabin sign. The spur to the cabin and tent sites leaves from the big avalanche conditions board.
Inside: heated by wood stove evenings only, solar LED lighting, long table/benches, propane cooking stoves with pots/pans/utensils. Sleeping is floor space in the loft—bring pad, bag, and headlamp. Caretaker posts daily weather/avalanche info by radio and maintains an untreated water hole in the stream.
Reservations: online or walk-in. Overnight cabin rate per person, max occupancy enforced; separate fees for 2‑person and 4‑person tent sites. Campers may not use cabin facilities (except privy and water). Carry in/carry out; pets not allowed. Read the on-site policies and check availability before hiking up. Details: harvardcabin.org.
