High Pines Trail
High Pines Trail is a short loop hike in Bon Echo Provincial Park (north of Napanee, Eastern Ontario). The loop is about 1.7 km (around 1 hour on the trail).
The route threads through multiple forest and wetland communities, with tall pines and groves of hemlock. Along the way, hikers also pass quiet forest ponds and move across rocky Canadian Shield ridges.
Expect a few steeper, rockier sections despite the short distance. The effort is enough that the route is commonly described as moderate, not a flat stroll.
Midway through the loop, Mazinaw Lake starts showing through the trees, including glimpses of the famous rock face from forest-level viewpoints rather than from open overlooks.
Trail-to-trail surfaces vary through the loop, mixing boardwalk/wetted ground, soil, and compact areas. That mix can make wet sections feel different from drier stretches.
Management and park context: the hike sits inside a provincial park that also offers canoe/kayak and other trail options. If you’re planning the day around other activities at Bon Echo, High Pines Trail works as a compact loop between longer outings.
