High Ridge Trail

High Ridge Trail is a ridgeline hiking route in the Ossipee Mountains area, managed by Lakes Region Conservation Trust at Castle in the Clouds Conservation Area (Lucknow Estate). It’s mapped as a trail/path corridor and is typically used as a connector between other trails and nearby summits rather than as a standalone destination.

The route length is about 5.3 miles one-way, with a profile that stays mostly moderate while still working as a dedicated day hike depending on how you link it with other paths.

Within the Castle in the Clouds trail system, it sits along the higher ridge line of the Ossipee Mountains; it’s a commonly used link when building longer loops that include summits such as Mt. Roberts and Mt. Shaw.

Expect the walking to follow old carriage-road style segments in parts, but the route can also include damp/rocky sections. Plan for footing that’s less predictable than a groomed path, especially after rain.

In the LRCT hiker achievement patch framework, High Ridge Trail is one of the designated trails required for the program’s Castle in the Clouds completion.

Wildlife can be active at higher elevations in early summer; follow standard food and wildlife etiquette practices on the ridge.
