Hong Kong Trail Section 7
Hong Kong Trail Section 7 (港島徑第7段) is one of the easiest island sections, about 7.5 km long and typically done in around 2 hours. It runs along Tai Tam catchwater for most of the walk before finishing with a steeper staircase/link up toward Shek O Road.
Start at Tai Tam Road near the Tai Tam Reservoir (North) bus stop, then follow the trail north along the catchwater. The first stretch is surrounded by trees, with the terrain staying straightforward for the majority of the distance.
As the section opens up, you pick up wider sightlines over Tai Tam Bay and Red Hill Peninsula. At weekends, Tai Tam Bay can be busier due to water-sports crowds, but the rest of the route is generally quieter than the surrounding hiking trails.
In the second half, you reach Lan Nai Wan Village area. From there the route mostly skirts the hillside and continues as an easy hike until it passes beyond the catchwater near the finishing point.
The last section adds the only real “work”: it turns increasingly precipitous with a down-then-up profile and a climb that leads into the connection by Shek O Road.
The route ends at To Tei Wan on Shek O Road, where it ties in with the start of Dragon’s Back (Hong Kong Trail Section 8).
