Jackal Hut
Jackal Hut is a backcountry wilderness hut run by the 10th Mountain Division Hut Association near timberline in the Camp Hale area. It sits at 11,660 feet and sleeps 16 people across multiple sleeping rooms (3 single beds, 4 single beds, and 10 single beds in a communal sleeping area). Use is reserved in advance; the hut has a wood oven, wood heat, refrigeration, an outhouse toilet, and mattresses/pillows, plus solar-powered lights.
In winter, the main access from South Camp Hale Trailhead is a steep climb that skis up FS Road 755 for 3.8 miles with about 2,436 feet of gain; a longer option goes via Pearl Creek. The hut has a base winter rate of $40 per person per night (children 12 and under get 50% off). Winter stays also require an additional US Forest Service fee of $10 per person per night from Thanksgiving through the end of April (children 15 and under are free). A fireplace is not provided; there is no shower or sauna, and pets are not allowed.
