JF Trail #106

JF Trail #106 is a remote, rugged hiking/backpacking route in the Superstition Wilderness within Tonto National Forest. It’s used as a connector between major wilderness trail arteries, including Rogers Canyon Trail #110 and Reavis Ranch Trail #109.

Expect moderate to strenuous travel: terrain is rough, with loose rock and stretches that can be overgrown with thick desert vegetation. Dense brush can include cholla.

The trail is about 4.5 miles point-to-point, and it’s commonly folded into longer multi-day loops (reported combinations range from roughly 13 miles up to nearly 60 miles).

Access is typically via Tortilla Trailhead or Woodbury Trailhead. The approach roads to the trailheads can demand high-clearance vehicles; a standard passenger car is not recommended.

Water is a central constraint on this route: it’s scarce and unreliable, so plan to carry your own supply or know exactly where seasonal springs are located.

Outside of big trailheads, the corridor is brushy enough that long pants and durable gear matter for minimizing skin exposure to vegetation.

A Tonto Pass may be required for parking at surrounding day-use areas, and dispersed camping is allowed in the wilderness with Leave No Trace expectations.

Plan for wilderness-era conditions: summer heat and water scarcity are typical, and road/trail status or fire restrictions can change—confirm current conditions before you go.
