Johnson Cabin

Johnson Cabin is a PATC backcountry hut on the Vining Tract near Lydia, Virginia. It’s a small log cabin with sleeping space for up to 4 people, equipped with a double-width, double-deck bunk and a wood-burning cooking/heating stove.

Use is members-only through PATC, with reservations handled via the PATC Cabin Reservations System. Plan on a hike-in: access is about 0.8 miles from the shared parking area along Goose Pond Road (use high-clearance vehicles for the gravel road to the trailhead). Bring drinking water: the nearest spring is about 0.3 miles from the cabin, and there’s an outdoor pit toilet at the site.

Check-in starts at 3:00 p.m.; if you arrive earlier on your day of arrival, you must reserve an additional night. For stove operation and cabin life logistics, bring your own sleeping gear (a sleeping bag) and be prepared for a primitive cabin setup where water and other essentials must be carried or sourced nearby.
