Keumang Trail

Keumang Trail is a long-distance hiking route on Mt. Matutum in South Cotabato, Philippines, commonly run as a day trip from the Polomolok/Tupi area. The route is signed as a moderate hike in this catalog, but it is widely described as a very punishing climb because of sustained steep sections.

Expect heavy climbing through dense forest with sections that require hands-on movement, including rockier/scrambling stretches and technical footing where roots and gradients dominate your pace.

Route timing is typically planned around a 6–8 hour round trip. Day-to-day conditions can make the difference between steady progress and a slow grind, so build in enough margin for slower parties at technical spots.

The trail’s altitude context centers on Mt. Matutum’s summit area, reaching about 2,286 meters above sea level on the overall climb that the Keumang Trail is known for.

Because Mt. Matutum is an active stratovolcano and sits in a protected landscape, access is treated as regulated. Plan on registering with the local tourism office and hiking with an accredited local guide rather than showing up and freelancing route access.

Wildlife and protected habitat are part of the background around the trail, so keep group impact low (especially off-trail scrambling) and follow guide instructions closely in sensitive areas.
