Kingsmere River Trail
Kingsmere River Trail is a short, easy one-way hike in Prince Albert National Park, Saskatchewan, running about 1.5 km along the Kingsmere River. Typical time on the route is about 1 hour.
Start where the trail meets the Kingsmere River and follow the river corridor through mixed wood forest dominated by aspen and spruce. The route also includes a river crossing early on, after which you continue onward toward Kingsmere Lake.
Partway along, the footpath connects with the historic railcar portage used by boaters and canoers to reach Kingsmere Lake; hikers use this same corridor to make the transition past the river’s obstruction area.
At the far end, the trail arrives at Southend Campground, with a kitchen shelter at the campground. From there, the route opens up toward Kingsmere Lake’s shoreline area.
Hike as an out-and-back or as a simple point-to-campground stroll depending on your plans; the commonly described round-trip distance is about 3 km total for visitors who return the way they came.
Practical notes: the walking is mostly smooth, but expect some tree roots near the ends of the route.
