Kokanee Cabin

Kokanee Cabin is a backcountry cabin in Chugach State Park on the southwest shore of Eklutna Lake, with no road or trail to the door. Summer access is by kayak or canoe; winter access is by crossing Eklutna Lake on snowshoe or ski (the crossing is hazardous and conditions vary). The cabin sits about 3.75 miles south of the put-in at the north end of the lake, with a gravel path from the beach to the cabin.

Inside, Kokanee Cabin is a 16' x 20' cabin that sleeps up to 8 with bunk sleeping arrangements. Use is limited to 5 nights per stay, and check-in/check-out is 12:00pm. Heating is via a woodfire stove—bring your own firewood. The cabin includes a fire ring, picnic table, and covered porch, plus a latrine/outhouse; there’s no running water or electricity.

Reservations are required and are made through Reserve America (up to about 7 months ahead). The stay has a nightly rate of $125 plus a $5 non-refundable transaction fee. After booking, you receive confirmation details by email to bring with you; the cabin has a combination lock on the door. Pets are allowed, and you’re responsible for cleanup.

Trip planning is time-sensitive around seasonal access: the cabin won’t be accessible during fall freeze-up or spring break-up, and lake travel depends on solid ice or open water. Alaska State Parks also limits use near cabins (including a 300-foot camping restriction) and posts standard public-use-cabin rules such as firewood limitations (only dead and down wood) and no smoking in the cabins.
