Limber Flag Yurt
Limber Flag Yurt is a primitive, year-round backcountry yurt in the Ashley National Forest, about 20 air miles north of Vernal, Utah. It’s set at about 9,000 feet at the edge of a clearing, surrounded by pines and aspens, and it’s meant for reserved stays with lock-combination access required. The yurt is roughly 314 square feet (under 20 feet in diameter) and sleeps 8 people at the yurt complex, with two bunk beds (full-size mattresses) arranged for multiple overnight guests.
Expect limited utilities: there’s no plumbing, running water, or electricity. The yurt includes a wood-burning stove for heat and a heavy-duty propane camp stove for cooking, plus folding chairs/bench storage; there’s an outside vault toilet north west of the yurt (about 20 yards). Bring your own linens/bedding/pillows (none are provided) and all personal cooking supplies; no potable water is available at the yurt. A propane Coleman lantern is supplied, but you’ll need your own propane bottles and mantles. Reservations are accepted most months, with the yurt open for reservations all months except November, April, and May; access requires calling the local district office three business days before arrival to confirm the door lock combination, and the office is closed Saturday and Sunday.
Access to the yurt depends on season and vehicle capability. A high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle is required for the yurt trailhead; during summer, you can drive to the yurt entrance, while the road is described as rocky, remote, and not suitable for RVs or travel trailers. From approximately Dec. 1 to March 31, non-motorized travel (cross-country skiing or snowshoeing) is required to reach the yurt, and snowmobiles are not allowed on the trail. Once there, the area supports hiking and off-road travel in warmer months and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter.
