Ludlow Hut
Ludlow Hut is a Sierra Club backcountry wilderness hut on the west side of Lake Tahoe, near Lost Corner Mountain. It’s a hike-in shelter intended for overnight stays and supports a true “hut-in-the-woods” style base for summer hiking and winter snow travel.
The hut sleeps up to 15 people and is managed for reservations. Inside, there’s an upstairs sleeping loft, a main room with a wood-burning stove and kitchen area, and a two-story outhouse about 100 ft southeast of the hut. A typical winter approach is a ~5.2-mile ski or snowshoe trek from the Rubicon–McKinney trailhead with about 1,100 ft of elevation gain; the traditional route follows the summer road along McKinney Creek past Miller Lake toward Richardson Lakes. In winter, the hut can be difficult to spot when snow blends it into the trees.
Ludlow Hut is typically rented as the entire hut; pricing is listed around $620 per night (for the whole-hut arrangement). Campfires are allowed, and there’s no potable water and no pets allowed.
