Lynx Lake #2 Cabin
Lynx Lake #2 Cabin is a State of Alaska backcountry cabin in the Nancy Lake State Recreation Area. It’s a small public-use cabin with a wood heating setup and a fire ring, with lake access and a nearby latrine.
The cabin sleeps 1 to 6 guests and has a 5-night stay limit. It can be reached in summer by canoe, kayak, or hike-in, and in winter by ski, snowmachine, or dog sled (ATVs are prohibited). A door combination lock is used for entry; after reserving, you receive a confirmation email with check-in information.
Summer access can involve road travel to a gate on Lynx Lake Road, but driving beyond mile 4 requires a $100 gate-key permit; the remaining distance is hike-in if you don’t have the key. The canoe trail from Tanaina Lake Trailhead involves crossing several lakes and portages for about 3–4 miles and takes roughly half a day to reach the cabin.
You’ll need to bring your own sleeping setup and supplies: sleeping bag and pad/air mattress, food and cookware, stove and fuel, matches/lighters/fire starter, a 9-volt battery for the smoke detector, first-aid items, plastic trash bags, drinking-water capacity, and firewood for the wood stove (only dead-and-down wood can be used). Fees apply for the cabin use, and reservations are handled through Reserve America, with reservations available up to 7 months in advance and a nonrefundable transaction fee added at booking time.
