Lynx Lake #3 Cabin
Lynx Lake #3 Cabin is a backcountry wilderness hut operated by the State of Alaska in the Nancy Lake State Recreation Area. It sleeps up to 6 guests (minimum occupancy 1) with a stay limit of 5 nights, and the cabin door uses a combination lock.
The cabin is a 16' x 20' log cabin with a fire ring, picnic table, and lake access. Heating is wood heat, with the expectation that you bring your own wood. Use in summer is via canoe, kayak, or hike-in; in winter it’s via ski, snowmachine, snowshoe, or dog sled (ATVs are prohibited).
Access and logistics are handled with advance preparation: the cabins can be reached by a rough, unmaintained Lynx Lake Road up to a gate (beyond mile 4 requires a $100 gate key), and the remaining distance from the gate is hike-in. A canoe trail route begins at Tanaina Lake Trailhead on the Nancy Lake Parkway and is about 3–4 miles with several lake crossings and portages, taking roughly half a day to reach the cabin.
Nightly rates and booking are handled through Reserve America. The posted nightly rate is $125 (with a $5 non-refundable transaction fee), and reservations provide a confirmation email with details you should print and bring to the cabin. The hut specifies what to bring, including a sleeping bag and pad/air mattress, drinking water, firewood, cooking gear/fuel, and a few safety items such as a 9-volt battery for the smoke detector; pets are allowed, and you must clean up pet waste.
