Mangaotane Hut (McMillans)

Mangaotane Hut (McMillans) is a basic backcountry hut in Raukumara Conservation Park, managed by the Department of Conservation in New Zealand. It’s a simple six-bunk hut for East Coast backcountry users, intended for self-navigated access with no DOC track to the hut.

Use is free and no bookings are required; it’s first come, first served. Facilities include a pit latrine and there’s a fireplace and mattresses provided. The hut has untreated drinking water, so plan to treat water before drinking and bring what you need for navigation and safe river crossings if you can’t find bridged options on your route.
