Margy's Hut
Margy’s Hut is a backcountry wilderness hut in the 10th Mountain Division hut system, owned by the 10th Mountain Division Hut Association. It’s set at 11,300 feet and sleeps up to 16 people, with a layout that includes a main-level bunk room (sleeps 4) plus an upstairs sleeping area with 1 double bed and 10 single beds in a communal area. Use requires a reservation.
Inside, the hut has heat, a wood oven, wood refrigeration, and a toilet outhouse. It includes mattresses and a fireplace, but there’s no shower, no sauna, no fire ring, and no water stream. Reservations are required, and the posted rate is $40 per person/night (children 12 and under get 50% off). The most frequently used winter approach is from the Lenado Trailhead via Johnson Creek; routes into the hut are also offered from the Norrie Trailhead and from other Lenado-area drainage approaches.
For winter route planning, the operator’s winter route material notes avalanche activity reported along the Johnson Creek suggested route at multiple points along the way, so carry appropriate avalanche rescue gear and use avalanche-aware decision-making.
