McKinley Lake Cabin

McKinley Lake Cabin is a Chugach National Forest backcountry cabin on the northwest end of McKinley Lake. Access is by hike, float plane, or canoe, and it’s set up as a remote base for fishing, hiking, hunting, and wildlife viewing in southcentral Alaska. The cabin is a 16-by-20-ft log structure with wooden bunks and a wood stove for heat, sleeping up to 6 guests.

Plan on a self-sufficient stay: there’s no running water or electricity, and visitors need to bring drinking water, food, and camping gear. The cabin includes a rainwater catchment barrel and an outdoor pit toilet. Use is by reservation (through the official Recreation.gov platform), and you’ll need to pack out all trash and food; bring your own firewood or plan to cut your own. Hiking access begins at the signed McKinley Lake Trail trailhead (Mile 21 of the Copper River Highway), with the cabin about 2.25 miles from that trailhead along the trail.
