McNair Cabin

McNair Cabin is one of the Tetrahedron Provincial Park wilderness cabins, operated by the Tetrahedron Outdoor Club. The cabin is located between McNair and Chapman Lakes (below the summit of Mt. Steele) and is used for overnight trips from the park’s Gray Creek Forest Service Road access area.

Sleeping arrangements are for about 12 people, with a sleeping loft upstairs, mattress pads, a wood stove, firewood, sinks for dishwashing, greywater buckets, an outhouse, and bench seating plus a table for 12. The cabins are kept open except for maintenance.

Use is first-come, first-served and the cabins are not reservable. There’s a cabin payment process with e-transfer, and overnight rates are $15 per person per night for non-members and $10 per person per night for Tetrahedron Outdoor Club members.

The operator also recommends avoiding overcrowding by checking the local Tetrahedron Outdoor Facebook group for others planning to use the cabin during the same dates and posting your own trip details.

Access from the trailhead to McNair Cabin is a 5 km hike. In summer this is about 1.5–2 hours, and in winter it’s about 2–3 hours (times vary with conditions and gear).

Cabin directions and road access are managed around Gray Creek Forest Service Road: winter travel may require 4WD with good winter tires and chains, and snow/avalanche terrain exists in the park. Pack a water purifying system (creeks/lakes may be dry in recent summers) and treat or boil all water.

BC Parks restrictions for Tetrahedron Provincial Park include no dogs or other pets, no swimming or bathing in streams or lakes, no open fires, and no camping anywhere other than the designated cabins; users also need to pack out garbage and wash dishes in the cabins. Tenting is not allowed in the park.
