Mickeleens Path
Mickeleens Path is an East Coast Trail section on Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula, running point-to-point from Bay Bulls to Witless Bay. It’s a day hike in the 7.2 km range and typically takes about 2–4 hours to complete.
The route swings between forest walking and open sea-meadow tramps, then repeatedly tops out to viewpoints along the coast. Expect a mix of dirt tread, rocky bits, exposed roots, and wooden stair sections as the trail links headlands and coves.
Cliff-edge moments are a core feature here, with frequent wildlife watching around the Witless Bay area. The path passes nesting guillemots and cormorants and gives opportunities to look for offshore whales and sea stacks.
For planning logistics, parking is at the Bay Bulls end (drive to the end of Quays Road; trailhead is reached by walking 280 m along the cart track). The Witless Bay end uses the Witless Bay Seabird Ecological Reserve Tourist Information Centre area, then a short walk to the trailhead at the school bus turnaround.
This section is rated MODERATE and has a current trail advisory: trail structures and the trail bed require repair, with more wet and muddy tread than normal and deteriorated structures along the route. Trail-rated footwear is recommended, and extra caution is appropriate on this segment.
If you’re trying to avoid a backtrack, there’s a community-walk connection network tied to the trail. Facilities and services are available at both Bay Bulls and Witless Bay.
