Mont Albert Loop
Mont Albert Loop (also called Tour du Mont-Albert) is a loop hike in Parc national de la Gaspésie that targets Mont Albert’s high, flat summit plateau and the Cuve du Diable valley on the way back down.
Distance is about 18.44 km with roughly 850–885 m of elevation gain, typically taking 6 to 8 hours for the full loop.
Seasonally, it’s generally open in summer, from July 1 through late September; plan around the park’s operating window for the Mont-Albert sector.
The route is built around a sustained climb through forest that eventually transitions abruptly onto arctic-alpine tundra and barren plateau terrain.
Expect the north-side push to be steady but steep, followed by traversing the summit plateau area at around 1,151 m before beginning the south-side return.
The descent is where many parties feel the most strain: it’s often described as rocky and challenging, with steep, loose boulder sections that can be slow going.
Route planning tip: treat the loop as serious terrain work rather than a “just hike to the top” day—footing difficulty is a major part of the challenge, especially on the way down.
